In general terms, a play is a form of entertainment. People go to the theater to separate themselves from everyday life and delve into another world. Often, plays are action-packed or feature fantastical events that differ drastically from what goes on in the real world. This is what separates other plays from Caryl Churchill’s Love & Information.

Once upon a time 12 student actors and an ambitious teacher-director decided to portray an un-fairytale. They faced many adversities along the way, such as ill cast members and the many difficulties of putting on such an elaborate play. Each day a new element was added, the cast enjoying themselves the whole way through, everyday finding something new to crack up about.

If you happen to walk through Hoyt, the sun dipping under the harbor’s horizon, you might hear strong melodies drifting from the chorus room, or the sound of the table saw in the scene shop. Perhaps, you will even see costumers carrying new carefully-chosen pieces of clothing, or cast members practicing lines in the lobby, perfecting each delivery.

Everyone knows that Tabor’s winter musical is one of the largest drama productions of the year. But what goes into making such a large-scale production work by the time the first note is sung on opening night? Having gotten the chance to experience first hand what goes into the making of the musical let me tell you there’s a lot more than meets the eye.
