It was a banner year for the sailing team in 2016 highlighted by a Spring Break trip to Ireland, winning the O’Day trophy, and once again qualifying for the Baker Trophy in Anacortes, WA. The coaching staff literally traveled a third of the way around the world with this team and at each stop they represented themselves and the Academy with pride and dignity.

What are senior projects? That’s a question that I have spent the past seven weeks trying to figure out. As I sit here on this Friday morning of senior projects I think back to everything I have seen and done these past few weeks. I have seen students grow through their projects, learning about their own cultures or their work ethic. I have learned about Final Cut Pro and editing film but I have also learnt about the hardwork and dedication that goes into each of these projects.
Will Becker delivered this triubte to the Rollers at All School assembly. Below is his speech and a video that was shown:
Steve Sughrue and Mary Kate McCain spoke movingly at All School assembly about the incredible legacy the Muthers are leaving behind. Here are excerpts from their speeches, and a slideshow that was shown at All-School.

This morning, members of the Tabor Academy sailing team departed for Charleston, SC to take part of the Interscholastic Sailing Association (ISSA) Fleet Racing Nationals for the Clifford Mallory Trophy. The Mallory trophy is high school sailing’s oldest trophy dating back to 1930 when Headmaster Lillard and others started the sport. Of the twelve founding schools, only Tabor, St George’s, The Hotchkiss School, and Choate Rosemary Hall still remain out of the 500+ high school programs that exist nation-wide today.

Lily Blouin is doing a Senior Project about Senior Projects. For some context about her project, read her first blog post.
During my past three years at Tabor I often heard about senior projects, however I never had a clear understanding of what actually happened during those seven weeks. Senior projects seemed almost mythical to me, you would hear about them from seniors when they first talked about them in the early spring when they were excited about dropping classes.

In the six weeks leading up to the May SAT, Tabor’s College Counseling office offers SAT prep on Tuesday evenings. My husband Steve, a math teacher, and I (English) have taught the class since 2005, when the College Board last revised the SAT. Now, in 2016, the College board has revised it once again.
How is the new SAT different than before? To start, the College Board has revised cutting the number of sections from three to two and making the essay optional rather than required.
Hey Seawolf Nation, Schuyler Hemmerdinger (’08) here. I realized that It’s been a while since I checked in with you, so I figured “hey, no better time than the present!” You may remember me as that kid with the long hair that was always playing a song at All School Meeting or longboarding back and forth between Daggett and the Academic Center on free periods.
When dreaming my sophomore year of the female empowerment work I wanted to do here on campus, I never imagined what that journey would entail. Almost a year later, it is still hard to believe that it happened to me. Meeting Alexis Jones last fall on campus, one of my top role models, was a dream come true enough, and when she asked me to maintain an I AM THAT GIRL Foundation presence here on campus, I was honored. I thought that was not quite the end of the road for this adventure, but I did not see what could top meeting Alexis and launching our chapter. I was soon proven wrong.
Strong Student Leadership Has Tabor Sailing Past Competitors
by Nathalie Cavallo '16, Tucker Hersam '16, and Parker Loftus '16, 2016 Sailing Captains
Though only midway through the season, the Tabor Academy Sailing team has found a lot of success so far this year. This past weekend, we came away with the George O’Day Trophy for the first time in ten years. Our success all started with a strong foundation: an early season trip to Schull, Ireland, where we sailed against 15 other schools in an International Regatta. It was a great team-building trip, where we, the captains, were learning along with our teammates, thanks to our excellent hosts in Schull.
Science at Work: Bringing Nautical and Marine Science to Life
Ocean Ecology remains one of our six strategic priorities that are essential to achieving our strategic plan, Tabor 150: Navigating the Future. Bringing together Marion, the South Coast, and the Cape with our Tabor community of students, faculty, parents, and friends, our new science speaker series allows Tabor to showcase our unique high school marine and nautical science programs and how we are working to bring science leaders to Tabor, using the ocean an educational tool to study the world around us.
Members of the Freshman TASC
The week before Spring break, the Freshmen TASC (Tabor Academy Student Council) put on a weeklong fundraiser to spread the idea of kindness. The National Acts of Kindness Week is a week-long holiday typically held the week of Valentine’s Day. This fundraiser gave the freshmen TASC the idea to hold their own Acts of Kindness week, where students could buy certain items and send them to their friends.
