Enjoy this second video of a two part series, created by John Rice '70, about the research portion of our 2014 Caribbean Studies Program. The students are a critical part of the research being conducted by the National Parks Service on the stressed coral reef populations around St. John.

This is the time of year when many people send a card, or in our case a video, to wish everyone the joys of the season. Here is our's in case you missed it!
On November 9, the undefeated football team of 1963 reunited on the legendary Tabor field. They came from far and wide to remember the glory days of that fall season as young men, invincible. And, they came to honor one of their own, Bill Illingworth ‘65, a war hero in Vietnam who earned a Purple Heart and served fifteen years with the Army Medical Corps as a Lt. Col., and as a doctor for his community ever since. The team had collected memories and stories, and gathered to unveil and celebrate a more permanent memorial, a commemorative bench overlooking their field, and a scholarship for future Tabor students in Bill’s name. Little did the men know that they would become a part of a larger story, also one of permanence, unfolding around them.

I just came across the LinkedIn profile of our alum Jon Converse ’81. On the profile there is, of course, an engaging description of Jon’s professional life, but being a graphic artist there was also a visual: a video montage of his work over the last 20 years. Talk about a revealing resume: this guy has done some amazing work! Not only was it intriguing to see how he would create a video that pulled together 20 years of projects in a two minute piece, but I was amazed by how much of his work I recognized.

With all that has been going on lately, (and going on so well, by the way!), I was concerned about how we would recognize Veteran's Day with our students in all the hub-bub. So, I was extremely heartened to hear the first thing announced on Monday morning was that it was Veteran's Day. We opened our Leadership Symposium by remembering our Veterans with some information and thoughts, followed by a student reading of the poem Flanders Field. It was actually the perfect time to remember our Veterans, who have exhibited such incredible leadership, as a way to open our Symposium. I was thankful that this correlation was made explicitly, as well as implicitly, as the military was represented by Jonathan Baron '95 in one of the break out sessions during the day.
We have just enjoyed a two-day event focused on leadership for our entire school community. Students and faculty, led by alumni and friends and special guests, learned the value they can bring to any situation to make it better.

Twenty Spanish students are becoming Seawolves! Our visitors, who arrived one week ago, are part of what is becoming an every other year exchange between Tabor and a school in Spain located in Begues, near Barcelona. They are with us for two weeks.
This being our second exchange with this same school, it is fun to see the Tabor students who traveled to Spain on the last trip welcome cousins and friends of friends they met in 2012.
Our day families have been gracious enough to act as host families to the students showing them American family life, while their Tabor student partners are adopting these students into their every activity. The school has planned trips to Boston and Providence, and yesterday they visited the New Bedford Whaling Museum to learn about our local history. Some fun social time has been planned as well with a pizza and movie night, skating and more. So far, so good!
Not only have they come at the most beautiful time of the year, but also there is so much happening at Tabor right now for our guests to enjoy. Theatre, music and dance all this week. Holderness Day on Saturday with a pep rally on Friday night. Then on Sunday night and Monday, they will have an opportunity to develop some lifelong leadership skills at our Graboys Leadership Symposium (more later on that!). These kids have come at just the best possible time to be a Seawolf!
We hope they are enjoying Tabor, and we look forward to our students chance to explore Spanish culture when they arrive in Begues in June!

You've heard the saying: our actions have a ripple effect. Today, the saying is Pay it Forward; for every nice thing that has happened to you, try doing something nice for three more people to "pay it forward." These concepts were the focus of a wonderful Chapel Talk by Jessica Lowe '14 on Thursday that caused the audience to jump to their feet in applause.
