Counting our Blessings

Posted by ksaltonstall on Oct 31, 2012 3:23:43 PM

Hurricane Sandy certainly gave all of us here at Tabor something to think about and something to be thankful for this Thansgiving season! We got off, essentially, scott free. Relieved to the core, especially after seeing what we have been spared, I am enormously grateful for our good fortune. That said, I am feeling some survivors guilt.

The Call of the Sea

Posted by ksaltonstall on Sep 27, 2012 2:17:50 PM

Many of you remember the ships chimes that rang from the bell tower of Lillard Hall for decades, declaring the approaching watch change for those on shore. While the story below is not about the same clock, its chimes reminded me of those memories I have heard from alumni many times. The picture, below, doesn't show the beautiful engraving around the brass ring of Tabor Academy and All-A-Taut-O and the schools two founding years 1876 and 1916 around the edge, and TABOR BOY in full sail adorning the clock face. All I can think is that perhaps we have found the inspriation of the Tabor seal we use today as our logo.

Engaging Politics

Posted by ksaltonstall on Sep 20, 2012 3:26:43 PM

Our American Government class is engaging the student body in the Presidential and Massachusetts Senate elections with some informative All School meeting presentations. Last week, we had a very informative lesson on the personal and professional backgrounds of the presidential candidates. More presentations will follow each Friday. We hope to teach about our Senate candidates, share some policy positions papers for and against issues, and also raise some awareness about political advertising, including how to fact check the candidates. Finally, a voter registration drive is in the works to register our students who are Massachusetts residents and of age to begin voting.

Out on a Limb?!

Posted by ksaltonstall on Sep 7, 2012 9:16:03 AM

Our Freshman Class of 2016 deserves a lot of credit! They made a choice to jump out of their comfort zone and join a new community. Not only that, almost as soon as they got here, we sent them off to Camp Hayward for yet another new start. Out on a limb? Not a chance!
