Tabor’s musical theater department is extremely excited to be putting on Grease this year, a popular musical written in 1971 by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. The classic and comedic story follows two high school students from the 1950’s, Sandy and Danny, and their friends throughout their senior year, with all the drama and friendships that take place over the year.
Speaking are Lucy Saltonstall ‘17 and Connor Cook ‘19. We have been cast for the lead roles of Sandy and Danny, and we are very excited! Though we have different experience levels in musical theater, Lucy having done it for all of her four years at Tabor and Connor having done shows outside of Tabor, this is a first for each of us being in a lead role in a show.
We have been having an awesome time embracing the challenge. Being a lead is definitely a bit different; the leadership role and hard work have been new and exciting tasks for both of us. It has been awesome working closely with the directors and the rest of the cast; because of the scene work it requires a lot more involvement in the show as a whole.
Despite the extra work, we certainly haven’t forgotten to have a good time. It’s been great making friends with castmates on set and in the chorus room. Just take us for example- before this show we had never met, and throughout just the first couple of weeks of rehearsals we’ve become really close friends. There’s no doubt we could say the same for the rest of the cast and crew - musical season definitely brings everyone together!
We are really looking forward to seeing the finished product and enjoying the reaction of the audience. Our actors and dancers seems to have a ton of energy and potential, onstage and off, so we know you will enjoy the show. Many are returning actors, and several are members of our award-winning Tabor Competitive Dance Team. Also, we are very excited to see all the stage crew has in store; they finished building the set over winter break, which includes high school bleachers, an onstage band, and a secret feature that hasn’t been included in a Tabor set for a long time. A hint: the actors will be working from the audience! Costuming is another area of surprise; it’s going to be fun to see those poodle skirts swing and leather jackets shine!
We can’t wait to see you all at the show, hand jiving and high-school-hopping along to some of all of our favorite songs from the film and musical we all grew up with! Remember- Grease is the Word!! See you February 16-18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fireman Center for the Performing Arts in Hoyt Hall: Be there!
