Bob Thompson's interest in Tabor came at an early age; his father graduated in the Class of 1931 and shared stories and his affinity for the school over the years. So, when he had the chance, Bob joined the Tabor Advancement Office in the fall of 1995 as the Director of Capital Giving during the highly successful Tabor Tomorrow Campaign. At the conclusion of the campaign, Bob became Director of Planned Giving. He will retire this spring after nearly twenty years of service.
Bob's love of meeting and getting to know Tabor alumni is evident by how many he now counts as friends. And, although he works primarily with alumni celebrating their 50th reunion or more, his Tabor friends span the generations. He has a special affinity for the SSV Tabor Boy and has taken many of the excellent photographs we have shared over the years when onboard visiting Cap and the crew to better understand our program as well as to plan alumni and reunion events on the schooner. His fundraising skill garnered the first major gift to start the Summer Sabbatical Program for faculty as well as many capital gifts to support scholarship, SSV Tabor Boy, and Tabor’s general operations.
He may be the elder statesman in the Advancement Office, keeping alumni in the know, but within the office, he is the biggest kid, too! We will miss him dearly, and hope he pops in to say hello from time to time.
