Thanksgiving

Posted by ksaltonstall on Nov 15, 2012 12:35:15 PM

There is so much to be thankful for in our lives here at Tabor and after the last couple of weeks, and the season that is upon us, I am feeling that strongly.

Some highlights of the year so far:

  • Hired a great new Head of School: John Quirk is terrific!
  • Dodged Hurricane Sandy!
  • Won Holderness Day and the Quarterfinals of Girls Class B Soccer! (those links are to some video for you to enjoy)
  • Enjoyed two fantastic black box productions
  • Inspired leadership from Faculty and Trustees in our fundraising efforts (100% in at the earliest point in history!)

Things are going well here at Tabor. Thank goodness!

But, Thanksgiving is about more than the wins of abundance and good fortune. It is a time of reflection, peace and friendship. It is about appreciating those who came before, recognizing legacy and who we are because of our history. We might, hopefully this holiday, take the time, as our turkey digests, to think about how to use the gifts of love and friendship that Thanksgiving represents, to improve ourselves and our service to others.

Tabor is in a reflective mode these days as we thank Jay Stroud, and all the leaders before him, for the legacy they have left us, and contemplate our future. It is our solemn duty to not take their effort for granted, but to build upon it with our own gifts of leadership and love to make Tabor strong for the next generations of students to rule our fields, stages and broad seas.

Indeed, "broad seas before us lie..." as the alma mater says: but, what will we make of them? Where will the journey take us? The responsibility of these questions and the possibilities they reveal for future graduates is exciting and awe inspiring, and best tackled together. I have faith in our community; the strength and potential of the extended Tabor community to shape and perfect our school by the sea is something I hope we can all feel thankful for this season!

My best to you all for a peaceful, reflective and loving Thanksgiving celebration.
