What are senior projects? That’s a question that I have spent the past seven weeks trying to figure out. As I sit here on this Friday morning of senior projects I think back to everything I have seen and done these past few weeks. I have seen students grow through their projects, learning about their own cultures or their work ethic. I have learned about Final Cut Pro and editing film but I have also learnt about the hardwork and dedication that goes into each of these projects.Click here to see a complete list of this year's Senior Projects! This past week has been a whirlwind of activities from prom and senior activities to an insanely packed week of senior projects. We had written abstracts about our projects to give in, senior project presentation meetings to attend, night time senior project presentations to give… You name it, we did it this week. Even though this week has been insane, I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Rachael Mostafa made mashups and remixes of different songs through electronic programs. She also recorded her own voice as the vocals to these songs.

After giving my senior project presentation this week, which was showing my 20 minute long film to an audience, I had this moment of “what now.” I had spent countless hours on this project, but if I were to estimate it would be over 140 hours, and it ended up consuming me. I would wake up in the middle of the night with ideas about how I could transition one part of the movie or where I should add a song. I spent every free moment I had in my photopool room, which I came to call my cave, and I couldn’t be more proud of the work I have done. This “what now” feeling came from this attachment that I had to my project. I had spent so much time on it that now without it I had no idea what to do with myself. So I went back to editing some more. I made a shortened version of my movie to present in front of the school this morning, I made a blooper reel for my movie, I even made a video about my crew team to play at all school!

I am releasing a bit of the separation anxiety I initially felt from editing and I am now looking forward to graduation. While I don’t see filmmaking and editing being a part of my future career path, I do see myself coming back to this passion that I have cultivated over the course of this project initially. What I do know will stick with me is the work ethic that I have finessed over the course of the project through my own hard work and dedication.

Tucker Francis worked to learn how to diagnose and fix engines, how to fabricate parts and pieces for a project, and the “art of troubleshooting.”
