The week before Spring break, the Freshmen TASC (Tabor Academy Student Council) put on a weeklong fundraiser to spread the idea of kindness. The National Acts of Kindness Week is a week-long holiday typically held the week of Valentine’s Day. This fundraiser gave the freshmen TASC the idea to hold their own Acts of Kindness week, where students could buy certain items and send them to their friends.Selling everything from dress down day tickets to bags of candy, the fundraiser was extremely successful, with the freshmen class making over $350. Almost all of the Tabor community, including students, teachers and faculty, contributed towards the cause, and many people found some great surprises in their mailboxes before break.

Using the money we made, the freshmen class decided to give our own act of kindness, by donating half of the money to our service partner schools Nativity Prepatory School and Our Sisters’ School. This money will go towards an annual dance that occurs between the schools, helping to buy anything from decorations to food to hiring a DJ. The schools are very grateful for Tabor’s contribution and look forward to many more connections between our school and theirs.

The Freshmen TASC, consisting of Jack Corbett ’19, Matthew Carvalho ’19, Yasmin Madmoune ’19, Daisy Ye ’19, Grace Ryan ’19, Anna Douglas ’19, Thomas McIntyre ’19, Jackson Reydel ’19, Ms. Calore, Mr. Patterson, and Mrs. Millette would like to give a huge thank you to Dean of Students Mel Bride and her contributions to their fundraiser. The Freshmen TASC is glad to have been able to raise awareness of this important event and hope that the freshmen of next year will continue on with this new tradition.
