To the Class of 2013

I wanted to share this lovely poem Tricia Smith, faculty, wrote to the Class of 2013 on the eve of their graduation. I hope some in the class will remember it and realize the importance of the connections they made here. To me, it nicely illustrates the kind of relationships our teachers and students share and the depth of the work that transpires here by and with our students. Enjoy!

2013
by Tricia K. Smith

Four years ago you were tentative smiles,

And frantic discourse,

Earnestly fumbling towards your future.

Four years later you have found your voice,

Become poised,

Discovered strength.

Four years ago you were a name,

Unknown,

Unexpected,

Unrealized potential.

Four years later you are familiar,

Recognized,

Discourse measured,

Potential uncovered.

In those years we have come to know one another,

In those years we have come to care about each other.

In those years I have seen you with your head bowed low,

Nursing injuries,

Obvious or invisible.

Now I see you walking into your future,

Head held high,

Transformed and beloved.

Confident smile,

Face beaming with pride.

Dreaming and realizing.

Striving and believing.

Today you are familiar.

Always, you will be missed.
