"Art of the ship model" Exhibit opening at The New Bedford Whaling Museum

By David Bill, Faculty

When Eric Witte ’13 built his T27 radio controlled sail boat (green and blue sails) in Practical Ship and Boat Design class a year and a half ago, he was not aware of the notoriety that the model would achieve. Through Nate Walton ’04, an alum on the Headmaster's Council and a friend of Ship Model expert Michael Wall, Eric was asked if he would be interested in displaying his model for a year at the New Bedford Whaling Museum in the exhibit titled "Art of the Ship Model" and curated by renown ship model expert Michael Wall and assistant curator Judith Lund (past Tabor parent). The exhibit opened last night at the New Bedford Whaling Museum.

After the year-long display, Eric will donate his model to the youth outreach program at New Bedford Community Boating Center now directed by Andy Herlihy ’94. Tabor has decided to donate future model boats that are unable to be transported home by their student owners due to distance to the same youth program. A nice win-win for all!
