Thank you, Edson Marine!

Posted by ksaltonstall on Feb 15, 2013 8:51:59 AM

When Tabor alumni Will ’71 and Hank Keene ‘70, owners of Edson Marine, learned that students in the Practical Ship and Boat Design classes were in great need of additional spline weights for the design aspects of their course, they stepped right in to help. They wanted to encourage our hands on learning approach to boat design.

Spline weights with splines, shown on the table in the photo above, allow the designer to set up “fair” boat curves in the design process. Because of the popularity of modern computer aided design (CAD) methods, spline weights and splines are difficult to find. Edson Marine is one of the few marine suppliers that still sell spline weights.

The Practical Ship and Boat Design students wish to thank the Keene brothers and Edson Marine for their support and generosity!

The Call of the Sea

Many of you remember the ships chimes that rang from the bell tower of Lillard Hall for decades, declaring the approaching watch change for those on shore. While the story below is not about the same clock, its chimes reminded me of those memories I have heard from alumni many times. The picture, below, doesn't show the beautiful engraving around the brass ring of Tabor Academy and All-A-Taut-O and the schools two founding years 1876 and 1916 around the edge, and TABOR BOY in full sail adorning the clock face. All I can think is that perhaps we have found the inspriation of the Tabor seal we use today as our logo.
