David Bill

Captain David Bill joined the Tabor faculty in the fall of 1988 after working as a third assistant engineer in the US Merchant Marines and as a USCG licensed sailing charter boat captain. Captain Bill earned a master’s degree in Marine Affairs at the University of Rhode Island in 1996. He is the chair of the nautical science department and coaches the waterfront instructional program during the fall and the JV sailing team during the spring. Captain Bill serves as houseparent in Daggett House.

After 27 years of teaching at Tabor Academy, I had the good fortune to receive and enjoy a fall semester sabbatical, which I have dubbed my “Seabbatical.” My Seabbatical has provided me the time and space to travel, write, volunteer, collaborate and spend time with my daughter. I’ve been asked countless times, “What have you been doing on your sabbatical?” My typical reply is, “ALL of the things that I wouldn’t have time for when I am working:”
