Art at a Distance

Posted by Tricia Smith, Chair, Visual Arts Dept. on Apr 13, 2020 4:08:47 PM

Since March 12th or so, when it looked unlikely that school would resume as usual, I started communicating with my Advanced Studio Art students. Tabor had enabled me to participate in a Design for Distance Learning workshop from GOA (Global Online Academy) over the March break and I had learned about some tools and ideas that would be helpful in the coming weeks. I decided to try one of the social tools similar to the Microsoft Teams platform we are using now. Twist (a product from Doist) allowed me to connect with my students and start a conversation about how we would “continue.” The thread I started was called simply “continuing,” and one by one 8 of my 12 students started letting me know if they had their sketchbooks with them, wherever they were. They all expressed how essential to their mood and sanity continuing with their art practice would be, so we started using the Twist platform to share a little before the distance version of Tabor Academy officially began.

Selecting a Musical

Posted by Mark Howland on Dec 20, 2017 4:00:40 PM

Selecting a musical is a little like going to the pantry to sort out dinner.  One sees many options:  the contents of one shelf look appetizing but are too similar to last night’s dinner or, for the director, to last year’s show.  The contents of another shelf amount to back-ups, meals held in reserve, or shows the director has kicked around but passed on, sometimes for reasons as simple as the rights not being available.

Musicians at Tabor form Service Group

Posted by Jack Shi '17 on Nov 21, 2016 10:50:19 AM

To my freshman self four years ago, leadership sounded like a far-fetched idea. Playing saxophone is definitely one of my biggest passions in life, but as the last-seat saxophone in wind ensemble and a “newbie” in jazz band, what could I do to make a real impact?

Posted by Alex Weimer '16 on Feb 10, 2016 4:28:23 PM

Everyone knows that Tabor’s winter musical is one of the largest drama productions of the year. But what goes into making such a large-scale production work by the time the first note is sung on opening night? Having gotten the chance to experience first hand what goes into the making of the musical let me tell you there’s a lot more than meets the eye.
