_DSC6794 Students went to over 30 organizations on the Morning of Service, including a farm in Dartmouth which donates food to local food banks.

On the very successful Tabor Day of Service, we were visited by Erik Dyson, the executive director, and Heidi Dubreuil, the development associate of All Hands, a disaster relief volunteer group. All Hands sends groups of young people to projects all over the world in support of communities that have been struck by the effects of poverty and natural disaster.

One project that the All Hands Disaster Assessment Response team is working on right now is the assistance of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency. In response to Tropical Storm Erika that devastated the eastern Caribbean island of Dominica, the All Hands team currently has volunteers surveying land and preparing for debris removal as well as drainage clearance and even more projects that will help the ravaged community.

Taking on projects of such magnitude is certainly not easy, and the All Hands team has a lot of volunteers to thank for their time and efforts. This is where the Tabor students came in! We helped Heidi by handwriting thank you cards for the kind efforts and donations of All Hands supporters. With twenty students helping to write, we managed to completePP1_9139 about five hundred thank you cards. By each working hard at our small tasks, we were able to create a great product and thank hundreds of donors and volunteers.

Here at Tabor, we were introduced to a fantastic organization and were able to offer a small amount of help for a huge cause. Hopefully we will have even more opportunities to work with All Hands as they are a great group with an even greater mission.
