Three Cheers for the Seniors!

Posted by ksaltonstall on May 27, 2013 8:15:02 AM

It is the sprint to the finish! The seniors are in their last week. They completed an excellent round of Senior Project presentations last Friday, and closed the athletic season on Saturday with the boys first boat in crew earning a third place finish in the finals of the New Englands, and the girls earning fifth place. We have enjoyed many concerts and recitals, one act plays and more this month through their energy and enthusiasm. It has been a wonderful whirlwind! And this week it is coming to a close. It feels sad, but we are also so grateful and proud of their accomplishments.

TA Crew-7370Thanks to John Gannon '83 for this great shot!

This is always a complicated time for our seniors. On one hand they are so ready to move on from Tabor's shores, on to their next exciting journey; and on the other, they are looking back feeling the nostalgia that comes with the end of any great experience that must come to a close. Bittersweet, indeed!

So, this week begins the traditional celebrations for the Class of 2013. It all starts fittingly with a moving Memorial Day Service in Chapel today to remember our history, to remember to give thanks and gratitude for selfless service which remains an enduring lesson. Then on to exams ending on Wednesday with the quintessential high school party: The Prom. The Promenade starts on Wednesday at 5:15 on the waterfront with the dinner and dance being held at The New England Aquarium. Thursday is the Senior Dinner, where Seniors and Faculty will enjoy a last meal together alone before family arrives for the Commencement weekend. Friday is Prize Day and Baccalaureate. Our speaker is Matt Siegel of the morning radio show, "Matty in the Morning," and parent of Olivia Siegel '13. Finally, Saturday is the big day: Commencement at 3:00pm! Please read about our speaker, Rear Admiral Rick Gurnon, the President of Mass Maritime Academy. Right now, the weather is looking picture perfect!

I hope you will follow us this week as we celebrate our graduates. Perhaps you will decide to come and bask in their joy, hear the inspiration of Rear Admiral Gurnon, and join us as we congratulate our seniors on their many varied paths toward the stage, which they will confidently cross with the resounding cheers of our entire community: full wind in their sails and All A Taut O for the voyage ahead!

Our best wishes for great success to all our graduates!
